Music Director – Robert Aszmies
Robert grew up in St Thomas, Ontario and started piano lessons at age 5. He completed his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Composition at Wilfrid Laurier University in 1997 and Masters of Music Composition at the University of Alberta in 2000. Robert brings a wide range of church musical experience as he has been active musically with several denominations including the Salvation Army, Anglican, Lutheran, Pentecostal and Presbyterian churches.
He is a classically trained pianist who holds the classics “very close to my heart” but who also has a passion for jazz and gospel. Robert’s favourite composer is J. S. Bach, while his favourite jazz pianists are Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett and his favourite singer Tony Bennett. Well rounded he is also a serious movie buff.
Organist – John Shaw
John graduated from Waterloo Lutheran University in 1965 in Honours History. He then pursued his Bachelor of Education at the Ontario College of Education with a major in history and a minor in both vocal and instrumental music. John taught history/world religions/economics/music at Waterloo Collegiate for 45 years.
John has played the organ at St. George’s for the Senior Choir for over 40 years and been associated with the Junior Choir for over a decade. He organized our Intermediate Choir many years ago.
Our Parish Administrator is Valerie O’Reilly. Val assumed her current responsibilities in August 2003. She books all meetings, concerts, sundry rentals etc for the church and hall. She also books weddings, baptisms, and funerals.
Valerie also arranges for all service bulletins, as well as attending to all minutes of the various parish committees and groups.
Valerie can be contacted at the Church Office or by phone at 519-744-4751 with office hours Tuesdays 1:00 -5:00 pm , Wednesdays and Thursdays 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with the exception of July and August when the hours are Tuesdays 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm, Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. and Thursdays 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
St. George’s Sexton
Allan Lee who assumed the role of Sexton in 2015, is one very busy person. His responsibilities include ensuring the church is always ready for worship no matter what day or time. He also cleans up after any special events such as weddings, funerals or other special events.
Allan also ensures all refuse is sorted properly and out for collection as called for. His cleaning efforts often include environmentally friendly products which add to the pleasant atmosphere of the church and hall.
