Working for Others

TIME - TALENT - TREASURE

We serve by reaching out to others. We believe that one of the primary reasons for the existence of the Anglican Church is to serve. We encourage our people to live out their faith by becoming involved in causes that alleviate suffering and seek to restore dignity to human life. We also believe that becoming involved in activities through the gift of our time, talent and treasure helps us to a richer and fuller community of spirit and religious experience.

Inspired by Christ, we dedicate ourselves to grow together in faith
through active stewardship and ministry to one another
and our communities.

Current Major Projects

Habitat for Humanity is our major outreach project of the year. We are determined to live out the gospel by giving a helping hand to a family in need. It is an opportunity for parishioners to work together this summer and to share their talents/labour in a build. The real excitement begins now. The build will take place in July and August, and the volunteer sign-up process is now underway. All are welcome.Find out more...

Little Dragon Day Camp is a Faith based summer day camp where the focus is on treating everyone with respect and acceptance. The children learn to understand that each one of us has gifts and talents that God has blessed us with.

This year at Camp Little Dragon we will "Swing into a Rainforest Adventure" with Shari the Butterfly, Bill the Toucan, Tad the Frog, Esme the Macaw and Cleo the Monkey. Find out more...

Ongoing Projects

St John’s Kitchen The gospels ask us to feed the hungry. St. George's and other Anglican churches have been doing this for three decades. St. John's Food Kitchen now has a new location at 97 Victoria St where it serves up 300 daily meals to the Region's poor and homeless. St. George's volunteers each Christmas to serve up a meal at the Kitchen and donate gloves, winter hats and toiletries. For more information, contact www.theworkingcentre.org

ROOF (Reaching Our Outdoor Friends) is a local non-profit organization working with homeless youth and youth at risk in the KW region. It is committed to providing for the health, safety and overall well being of young people between the ages of 12 and 25 years.  In 2007 St. George's donated $765.00 to ROOF which allowed ten homeless or at-risk youth to participate in The Youth Camping Adventure, where they had a break from the streets for a 3 day period, and experienced camping in the outdoors.  For more information, contact  www.roof-agency.net.

Anselma House offers women and children 24 hour emergency shelter as part of the women’s crisis services of Waterloo region . The program provides a safe haven for women who are experiencing abuse and require safety for themselves and their children.  This year we raised over $800 for Anselma House by selling Valentine chocolates. For more information contact www.anselmahouse.org

St Monica House located in Waterloo and Monica–Ainslie Place in Cambridge provide settings where single expectant mothers, young parents and pre school children can find understanding and support, can make informed decisions about adoption or parenting and can prepare physically and emotionally for birth, parenthood or adoption.  St. George's support for St Monica House came from The proceeds from the "Christmas Carol" performance.  $1471.00  went to purchase 2 new IKEA chairs, part of new dining furniture and Christmas gifts for the mothers in 2007!   For more information about St Monica House contact www.saintmonicahouse.org.
