Seminary and Chocolate DO Mix!St. Philip's Training College is a seminary that was founded by TBR Westgate, a graduate of Huron University College, almost 100 years ago. The Faculty of Theology has taken great interest in this community whose students must sacrifice much to get a theological education. There is a great interest for someone from their community to come to Huron to study, but unfortunately at this time the cost is prohibitive. However, there is something we can do.
They are in need of more chickens, a cow and a much needed sunflower press filter as they work very hard at being self-sustaining. There are also urgent needs for books, library aids and daily living needs.
The theology students at Huron are selling Laura Secord-like eggs for $4.00 each in order to raise $5000. Laura and Rob Lightfoot will be taking orders for the eggs until after the service on March 14th with delivery on March 21st.
Laura's goal for sales is 100 of the 2000 eggs for sale. Let's see if we can help her reach her goal!
Knitting for Central and South AmericaWe have a new activity at St. George’s! It came to our attention that people in the mountainous areas of countries in Central and South America live through damp cold winters. A nurse working in these areas noticed that many people, and in particular children, contracted chest conditions including pneumonia. To help prevent this she thought that they needed protection from the inclement weather and asked friends and family in North America to knit vests for them.
We now have a group of industrious women knitting colourful vests in all different sizes. To date we have 53 finished vests! We welcome new members to this knitting group and we also offer knitting lessons. Knitting patterns and yarn are available in the Narthex. If you feel that you are unable to help in this way but would like to be involved we will always accept donations of yarn.
