LAY READERS

Catherine Carlson

For nearly 3 decades, I have enjoyed being a member of this parish! (I cannot believe how quickly that time has passed.) During those years I have gone from being a member for Sunday worship where I have seen my daughter, Caitlyn, baptized. As she grew so did my involvement with the church. I was on duty in the Nursery, taught Sunday School, a director for the Christmas pageants, a Reader and an Intercessor, a Server and worked on the Pastoral Care team as well as volunteering on numerous committees–as time allowed. It has become my joy to archive moments in service and fellowship as the woman with the camera who merrily captures who we are each time we gather. Say Cheese!!

Retirement after 40 years of teaching English and Theatre has afforded me the opportunity and blessing of becoming more heavily engaged within the church. It also saw a deepening of my own personal faith journey. My sponsorship of schools and soccer teams in Uganda– beginning in 2014 til present day–continues to be a key factor in understanding how God works through us in not just our personal family life and community, but also in the world! Nearly 5 years ago I expressed an interest in becoming a Lay Reader. Joining this small group has allowed me opportunity to understand, explore, nurture and deepen my faith. Let us remember to give God room to work and humbly accept the path He has chosen for us. I am humbled to be able to serve and preach in this most marvelous faith family. Let Christ’s glory be in our every breath and word. He is our strength and stay.

Greetings and welcome!
What would you call a life journey that starts off with earning a bachelor’s degree in Music, jumps to I.T.,takes a detour back into music in equipping and supporting schools and school board music programs, shifts to doing support, training, admin, and logistics for the elections (federal, provincial, and municipal), and currently is back in university exploring God’s call? I would call it my life so far!! I joined St. George’s in February of 2015 and am blessed to be able to call it home. There are so manyways that you can connect and be as involved as you want here. I have been given the opportunities tobe part of the Music ministry, to participate in bible studies, to go a bit deeper and join the EfM program(where the Bible is explored both in the scriptures and its history), and to be a part of the Lay Reader team. St. George’s is a beautiful building, but it is the people and community here
that really make it achurch. They are the reason my wife and I chose to call it home
